Manchester City right back Micah Richards is wanted by West Ham United and Sunderland, report the Mail, with the Premier League duo battling it out for a deadline day move for a player who has fallen almost entirely out of favour at Eastlands since the arrival of Bacary Sagna from Arsenal this summer.

Richards, who emerged from the youth academy at City, didn’t make enough Premier League appearances for a winners’ medal last season and will be keen to revive his career with a move away – although whether it will be to Wearside or East London remains to be seen.

The Black Cats appear to be the favourites for the signing of Richards, with West Ham only likely to be able to afford a loan move – a situation that would be no good for City as they scramble to sell players to allow them to finance a move for striker Radamel Falcao from AS Monaco.

Sunderland’s initial interest had, reportedly, been on a season-long loan deal, but City will be hoping that they can persuade them to take Richards on a permanent transfer to help them cobble together the funds for their mammoth deadline day bid.
