Manchester United have joined the race for Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira, according to the Daily Mail.

Louis van Gaal made a number of signings this summer, but many would argue not in the positions that were most needed by the club.

The Premier League side still seems to be missing a number of key defensive players, and a powerful midfielder is something they vitally need.

The 27-year-old World Cup winner doesn’t have the greatest injury history, which is certainly a worry for any interested party. He is however coming to the end of his current contract with Madrid, and could be available for next to nothing in January.

United will undoubtedly face competition from the German’s long term admirers Arsenal and Chelsea, but with the Red Devils already showing they are not afraid to pay monstrous wages to attract their top targets, could they have the advantage over their London rivals?
