In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, Aguero spoke about the dismal mood in the City camp after this week’s latest setback in Europe, which saw the Premier League champions lose at home to the unfancied Russian side and give themselves a mountain to climb to make it into the knockout stages of the competition.

The Argentine says that everyone at the club is disappointed with the team’s displays in the Champions League, revealing that even his son was critical of his performance, saying that he dived as well.

“Even little Benjamin was angry,” he said. “He told me that I dived.

“We are not seeing the real City playing in European competition at the moment. But we still have these last two games. We have to go out with a different mentality and, as we say in Spain, go out with a different chip in your head.”

Aguero, the top scorer in the Premier League at the moment, went on to say that he has ambitions of winning Europe’s top club competition with City, and will not be looking to leave the Etihad Stadium before he achieves this dream.

It has sometimes been suggested that the 26-year-old will one day make a return to Spain, where he kick-started his career with Atletico Madrid, but he has no plans to do so anytime soon, and wants to deliver European glory to his current employers.

He said: “Not only will I stay the four years to make it eight here in total. I’ll stay beyond that. Until we win it.”
