The Argentine coach is keen to strengthen his squad after a difficult start to the season, with midfield and attack seemingly his priorities as he aims to bring in both Morgan Schneiderlin and Jay Rodriguez.

The pair could cost a combined £35m, with in-form French midfielder Schneiderlin valued at £15m, and England international striker Rodriguez worth around £20m.

However, it is unlikely that Southampton will consider selling either player in the middle of the season, with Ronald Koeman’s side making a great start in the Premier League and chasing a place in the top four.

Still, Pochettino will come back in and raid his old club next summer in this ambitious double deal, which could help him go some way to replicating the success he had at St Mary’s at his new club.

Schneiderlin and Rodriguez were key members of his team at Southampton, and could prove useful additions at White Hart Lane as well, though they will clearly not come cheap after enhancing their reputations tremendously in recent times.
