West Ham have been overachieving in the Premier Leagu this season under Allardyce, and currently find themselves in the Champions League spots.

Mourinho has had some favourable words for the former Bolton manager ahead of the Hammers’ tricky trip to Stamford Bridge, with the Portuguese manager tipping his opponent for glory.

This comes almost a year after the two were involved in a media feud; with the ex-Real Madrid boss accusing West Ham of playing “19th century football”.

When Allarydyce’s side ground out a 0-0 draw against Chelsea last season however, they were in the midst of a relegation battle. Now they are nipping at the heels of the Premier League’s elite, and will be hoping to cause an upset.

“If West Ham finish top four, then Big Sam is manager of the season, West Ham team of the season, because it would be an amazing achievement comparing West Ham with the investment that other teams had to finish in the top four,” Mourinho said.

“But why not?”

The Blues boss will be hoping to wipe away the memory of last year’s result with a win on boxing day, but Allardyce certainly won’t be willing to roll over.
