Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes that manager Brendan Rodgers has to sign a top striker in the summer after failing to properly replace Luis Suarez last time round, reports the Daily Mirror.

The Reds haven’t been able to replicate their second placed finish from last season without the Uruguayan forward. They are currently four points behind fourth placed Manchester United, and need the Red Devils to at least draw twice in their final three matches in order to have a chance of qualifying for the next edition of the Champions League.

There had been some hope that Daniel Sturridge could fill the boots of Suarez during this campaign, but the England international has been injured for long periods. He has made just 18 appearances, and only scored five goals in them.

This has led to Carragher believing more reinforcements are needed. The Anfield hero also thinks that several of last summer’s transfer flops will be moved on.

The 37-year-old said: “They need a top striker to go with Divock Origi, who is coming in from Lille, and Sturridge when he comes back.

“Unfortunately the strikers already at the club haven’t produced and they have not got the goals that we needed. You would expect two, maybe three, of them to move on and Liverpool would need to reinforce in attack.”
