Cadena Cope on Monday stated that the Chile international’s transfer to north London was 90% complete; however, it appears that the rumours may have been false if latest reports prove correct.

In the same way that Arsene Wenger has allegedly opted not to challenge Manchester United for the signature of Morgan Schneiderlin following months of speculation that the Frenchman was heading to the Emirates, the Gunners boss has also decided against signing Arturo Vidal, according to The Independent.

The British newspaper claim that Wenger will not make an offer for the Juve midfielder after the French manager had a rethink on his central midfield targets – with the conclusion being that Vidal is not a necessity signing.

According to the report, Francis Coquelin’s breakthrough campaign last season has left his manager feeling that a central midfielder is no longer a priority this summer – suggesting that the 24-year-old is considered the long-term solution to what has been a problematic position over the past few campaigns.
