According to the Daily Star, the striker at the top of Brendan Rodgers’s transfer wish list this summer is the Villa Park hitman; however, with Tim Sherwood refusing to budge on the £32.5m price-tag, the Northern Irish manager has turned his attentions to the Etihad forward.

With Sergio Aguero, Wilfried Bony and Edin Dzeko competing for a position in Manuel Pellegrini’s attack, Jovetic could be surplus to requirements at the Etihad – and the Daily Star believe that the Sky Blues are willing to listen to offers for the Montenegro international.

The British newspaper state that the Reds could face competition from Inter Milan, with Roberto Mancini keen to end the forward’s misery in England and lure him back to Serie A.

The 25-year-old has failed to make a real impact in Manchester since his £22m transfer from Fiorentina in July 2013.

Jovetic has made just 11 Premier League starts in his two seasons in England’s top flight – scoring eight goals – and his future appears bleak with the Citizens. Despite his struggles, the forward can boast the agility, flair and sinuous movement that may help to replace the unpredictable impact that Luis Suarez brought to Anfield.

The Merseyside giants’ pursuit of Benteke, however, may not be over as the Daily Star suggest; reports from the Telegraph claim that the Belgium international is set to inform Sherwood that he wishes to make the move to Anfield this summer, and could be willing to force through a transfer.

The end of Liverpool’s interest may not mean that Benteke has run out of transfer options. The striker has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford, with talkSPORT linked with a move for the Belgian hitman.
