Manchester United spending to reach £104.9m: LVG to activate buy-out clause to sign Liverpool target

LVG eyes another huge signing.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal could take the club’s spending over the £100m mark for the second summer in a row as the club close in on a move to sign Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke.

The Red Devils are keen to beat Liverpool to the Belgian international’s signature, and will now meet his release clause of £32.5m to bring him to Old Trafford, according to The Sun.

The 24-year-old caught the eye with some fine goalscoring form last season, and he looks the ideal player to help replace departing duo Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie.

United will also be pleased to land one of their rivals’ top targets, with Benteke being identified by Liverpool as a priority to help them replace Raheem Sterling after his move to Manchester City.
