Manchester United plan £20m bid for versatile Premier League attacker

Manchester United will look to pull off a second successful Southampton raid, with the Daily Mirror claiming that the Old Trafford side will offer £20m for attacker Sadio Mane.

Louis van Gaal brought in Morgan Schneiderlin from the south-coast side and according to the Daily Mirror, look set to return to St. Mary’s for another Saints star. The tabloid report that having failed with a £15m bid for Senegal international Mane, Man United are set to register an improved £20m offer for the 23-year-old.

Mane moved to Southampton last summer, and netted 10 goals in his debut Premier League season, a decent return given the speedy forward started 24 top-tier fixtures. Dutch boss Ronald Koeman will not be keen on losing another member of his side this summer.

Koeman had to contend with a host of Southampton’s best players leaving during last summer’s window, but Southampton battled manfully to secure an impressive top-seven finish, however the Saints have seen another slew of players leave over the last few months, and have started the season poorly.

Southampton have sold Nathaniel Clyne to Liverpool and Schneiderlin to Man United, and have picked up just one point from their opening two Premier League fixtures, looking disjointed in their outings to date.

Sadio Mane works primarily in a wide-attacking role, but is also capable of filling a central striking berth. He was a regular goal-scorer during his time at Red Bull Salzburg, scoring 45 goals in 87 appearances for the Austrian side.
