Chelsea are to make a £40 million bid for Everton star John Stones, but the player will refuse to ask for a transfer, reports the Daily Star.

There had been reports that the 21-year-old was going to ask the Goodison Park hierarchy for a move, but those stories are false according to the Star. Manchester United have also been linked to the England international, [Daily Star], but it seems that the Stamford Bridge outfit are in the lead.

The Blues have already seen bids of £20 million, £26 million, and £30 million turned down by the Toffees, and manager Roberto Martinez has even claimed that it is too late for a transfer request to make any difference [The Guardian]. This latest development means that the Merseyside club might no even have to go through that situation.
