The German international was said to have been the subject of bids as high as £65m a few months back, with Liverpool also mentioned several times as potential suitors.
Still, it is little surprise that he ended up remaining at the Allianz Arena, despite the best efforts of United to lure him to the Premier League in a big-money deal.
