Arsenal eye double Bundesliga transfer raid in January for Karim Bellarabi and Benedikt Howedes

Arsenal are said to be preparing to embark on a double raid for Bayer Leverkusens’ Karim Bellarabi and Schalke skipper Benedikt Howedes in the January transfer window, according to the Metro.

The Gunners are in desperate need of fresh reinforcements in the new year if they are to have any hope of sustaining a serious title challenge, which German publication Bild (via Sport Witness) claim could lead to two huge offers for the Bundesliga pair.

Manager Arsene Wenger has seen his squad decimated by injuries so far this season, with the report citing that Bellarabi, 25, would be an ideal player to step into the shoes of absent widemen Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Elsewhere, the Metro reports that Howedes could be seen as an upgrade on ageing centre-back Per Mertesacker, and would alleviate the pressure on Laurent Koscielny, who himself has had to deal with numerous injury problems throughout the campaign.
