Man United flop emerges as shock target for Real Madrid

La Liga giants Real Madrid are reportedly interested in singing Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo during the January transfer window, according to reports in Spain.

Los Blancos are said to be keen on the Argentine international after identifying him as the ideal back up to regular left-back Marcelo, though he would also be able to fill in at centre-back if needs be.

Rojo was one of Louis van Gaal’s first signings when taking over at Old Trafford, when he arrived from Sporting Lisbon for £16million, but has struggled for game time this term, and could be open to a swift exit should the right offer come in.

So far this term the 25-year-old has made just 10 appearances across all competitions, and has been largely kept out of the side by utility man Daley Blind.

However, with Zinedine Zidane being installed as Real’s new boss, it will be worth keeping track of whether the club’s transfer policy changes in light of his being so inexperienced in the transfer window.
