Chelsea believe that they can still beat Premier League rivals Liverpool to the signature of Shakhtar Donetsk forward Alex Teixeira, according to the Daily Mirror.
Liverpool chief Ian Ayre flew out to Shakhtar’s Florida training camp on Thursday to meet with the player and his agent to finalise a move to Anfield, but the Ukrainians reportedly rejected their £25million offer.
This now leaves the Blues with another chance to get back in the driver’s seat in the deal.
It is thought that Donetsk are looking for a fee closer in the region of £30million, and with Chelsea having worked on putting a move together for the Brazilian since before the transfer window opened are now keen to get the jump on their counterparts from the Northwest.
Teixeira has bagged an impressive 26 goals in 25 games so far this term and has been identified as a target to add some significant firepower to a frontline, hence the scramble for his services.
