Liverpool and Manchester United set for transfer battle over Bayern Munich star

Manchester United and Liverpool will reportedly fight it out over the transfer of Bayern Munich ace Mario Gotze this summer.

The 23-year-old has been limited to just 11 appearances in an injury-plagued season so far this year, and in turn it has raised doubts about his future in Bavaria.

Having previously clashed with coach Pep Guardiola, the World Cup winner could see the Spaniard’s exit at the end of the season as a chance to re-establish himself for the German giants, but it appears as though he will have options in the Premier League, according to The Daily Star.

It is claimed that Bayern are preparing contracts for some of their top stars, but Gotze has yet to be contacted about a new deal which has thrown his future at the club into further doubt.

While incoming boss Carlo Ancelotti may well change the stance depending on his plans for the team next season, Real Madrid and Juventus are also understood to be monitoring the situation.

The early suggestions though are that the Italian tactician doesn’t see Gotze as part of his plans, as he looks to mastermind a way of ensuring that the Bundesliga champions continue to dominate domestically while also pushing for honours in Europe.

Despite widespread interest from across the major leagues, it appears as though Liverpool and United will likely be at the front of the queue for the forward, who has been linked with a move to England on numerous occasions in the past.
