Mario Gotze transfer saga takes new twist amid new revelations regarding Liverpool move

Bayern Munich star Mario Gotze reportedly turned down the chance to move to Liverpool as he saw it as a step backwards for his career.

According to SportsBild, as noted by the Liverpool Echo, the German international wasn’t entirely convinced about a switch to Merseyside, despite the fact that it offered him a chance to secure a reunion with former boss Jurgen Klopp.

The report adds that Gotze is still interested in a possible move to either Real Madrid, Barcelona or Arsenal, but it remains to be seen whether or not he gets his wish.

Having insisted last month that he sees his future in Bavaria ahead of the arrival of incoming boss Carlo Ancelotti, Gotze’s situation has undoubtedly become more complicated.

Bayern icons, both inside and out of the club currently, have suggested that Gotze should have a rethink over his future, which in turn has cast doubt over whether or not he will still be with the Bundesliga champions next season.

Ancelotti has also now spoken on the situation, and it wasn’t exactly the most reassuring of comments from the Italian tactician, who noted what many have already said in that discussions have taken place and Gotze knows what they think.

“I’ve spoken to Mario on the phone,” Ancelotti said, according to ESPN FC. “He’s aware of my opinion.”

Having been included in Joachim Low’s squad for Euro 2016 this summer, the 23-year-old will now wish to focus on helping his national team add the European crown to the World Cup that they won two years ago.

However, he still evidently has a headache ahead with the transfer saga continuing despite his declaration about his intention to stay.
