Controversial Arsenal star coming back after loan spell, could sign extension

A solid season at Roma appears to have been enough for goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny to regain the good graces of the Arsenal coaching staff, as he is on his way back to the Emirates after a year in relative exile.

According to the Independent, Wojciech Szczesny appears set to return to Arsenal after Roma’s offer for a loan spell extension was deemed inadequate by the Gunners.

Per the source, Szczesny is on the verge of being offered a contract extension with Arsenal. He currently has two years left on his deal.

During the 2014-15 season, Szczesny got into hot water with Arsene Wenger over improper behaviour, but was still given the starting role in Arsenal’s 4-0 FA Cup win over Aston Villa.

Szczesny was shipped off to Roma after losing the No. 2 goalkeeper job to David Ospina before the start of the 2015-16 season.

The Independent reported that Szczesny was dropped from the Roma roster for a smoking incident.
