Jamie Vardy’s new Leicester City contract is reportedly worth £100,000 per week.

The Foxes announced today that the 29-year-old striker has signed a new four-year deal at the King Power Stadium despite having the chance to join Arsenal after they triggered his release clause.

The Gunners had expected the England international forward to make a decision on his future before departing for Euro 2016. They were made to wait, and have now been disappointed.

But, according to The Express, Leicester have had to offer one of the principal heroes of last season’s title miracle a six-figure weekly salary to convince him not to leave for the bright lights of the Emirates.

This financial milestone is the latest in the remarkable rise of a forward who was playing non-league football for Fleetwood Town four years ago. Now he is, probably, Leicester’s first £100,000 footballer.

Vardy scored 24 Premier League goals last season for the eventual champions, a tally only bettered by Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane, and will now test himself in the Champions League next season.
