Man United sale could aid Liverpool move for summer transfer target

Liverpool have been one of the Premier League’s busier clubs in the transfer market this summer, but it seems as though at least one more deal could be in the works at Anfield.

According to the Daily Star, the Reds want to sign Zenit and Belgium midfielder Axel Witsel, but face competition from local rivals Everton.

Star Sport claim Everton are also interested in Manchester United’s Morgan Schneiderlin and that if the Frenchman were to be reunited with former Southampton boss Ronald Koeman at Goodison Park Liverpool would have the upperhand in this transfer battle.

The Daily Star even go as far as to say that Liverpool’s hopes of getting Witsel “depend” on whether or not United sell Schneiderlin to the Toffees.

Schneiderlin joined United last summer for a fee of around £25m, according to BBC Sport.

The 26-year-old’s first season at Old Trafford was disrupted by injury, although he was still able to start 25 Premier League games.

Schneiderlin managed to sneak into France’s Euro 2016 squad as a replacement for Lassana Diarra, but he has not been given a minute of game time in the tournament hosts’ first four matches.
