Liverpool pull out of race to sign Mario Gotze as Tottenham prepare to swoop

Liverpool have reportedly opted against moving forward in their pursuit of Mario Gotze as Jurgen Klopp is content with his options.

The Reds were thought to be keen on the German international which would have set up a reunion with Klopp given their history at Borussia Dortmund.

However, as reported by The Liverpool Echo, Klopp is said to be happy with his attacking options after securing the signing of Sadio Mane from Southampton last month.

The report goes on to suggest that the Premier League outfit had made contact with Gotze’s camp regarding a move prior to Euro 2016, but talk of him visiting Melwood were not true.

In turn, the 24-year-old will now continue to consider his options, with the Echo revealing that Tottenham Hotspur and Dortmund remain options for him if he opts to leave Bavaria this summer.

Having struggled with the Bundesliga champions last season and again in France this summer, he may well decide that a fresh start is required, while he has just one more year remaining on his current contract.

In turn, both Spurs and Dortmund will be monitoring his situation closely in the coming weeks with a view of making a move if it becomes apparent that he will leave.

As for Liverpool, Klopp will be content with the attacking options at his disposal, with the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi and Danny Ings set for big roles next season, while there are a whole host of creative players in place to feature behind them.

Klopp will likely continue to look at personnel to further bolster his squad, but a reunion with Gotze is seemingly no longer on the agenda.
