Chelsea pursuit of Real Madrid ace could finally allow star man to seal exit

Chelsea still face the possibility of losing Diego Costa to Atletico Madrid this summer, with reports that the La Liga giants haven’t given up on their pursuit.

The Spanish international arrived at Stamford Bridge in 2014, and after a successful first season in which he won the Premier League, both he and Chelsea struggled last year.

With Antonio Conte now at the helm, it remains to be seen whether or not Costa has a major role to play for the club moving forward, and according to The Mirror, Atleti still haven’t given up on signing him.

It’s claimed that Atletico are aware that Conte wishes to sign Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid this summer, and should that transfer happen, then it would ultimately pave the way for Costa to return.

As a result, they are set to bide their time and wait for developments elsewhere in the market before making their move for their primary target, as essentially they have their hearts set on taking Costa back to the Spanish capital and reuniting him with Diego Simeone.

The Mirror add that AC Milan striker Carlos Bacca had indicated that he would be open to a move to Atleti as he looks for Champions League football next season, but the Colombian international remains second choice behind Costa.

Meanwhile, it’s reported that Chelsea have already failed with two bids for Morata, but they will weigh up a third with The Mirror suggesting that it will take a bid of £67m to prise him away from the Bernabeu.

While it remains to be seen how the situation develops, it does suggest that it will be busy month or so for Conte as he looks to continue to strengthen his squad.

The former Italy boss has already brought in Michy Batshuayi and N’Golo Kante this summer, and more new faces are certainly expected to arrive between now and the end of the transfer window as he plots a way of enjoying a successful first year in the Premier League.
