The secret of Spain’s recent tournament successes seems to be Coke Zero, the Diet Coke designed for insecure men. There are roughly 30 cans of the stuff lined up in the Spanish dressing room ready to be drunk. It could just be product placement, but given how willing English football has been to copy Spanish systems in recent times, will it be long before we see Gareth Southgate whipping out crates of Coke Zero at St George’s Park?
