Chelsea plan mass exodus with club needing to raise £100m in the summer

Chelsea are preparing for yet another major sale in the summer, as the team is concerned about breaking the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

The Blues’ Premier League opponents, according to The Telegraph, are certain that in order to avoid PSR consequences, they must approve a mass exodus before June 30.

Under the current management, Chelsea’s transfer policy has been a contentious topic of discussion since Todd Boehly and his team have approved an incredible £1 billion in spending on new signings since taking over the team.

Chelsea’s staggering spending in recent windows has caused this issue and could pose a serious threat to the club.

Even if the club’s present situation doesn’t match their expenditure, that number continues to grab attention. However, the Blues have also made about £400 million via player sales.

After the exits of Kalidou Koulibaly, Edouard Mendy, Mateo Kovacic, Kai Havertz, and academy graduate Ruben Loftus-Cheek last summer, Chelsea raised nearly £130 million before June 30.

According to The Telegraph, the Blues will need to go on a comparable fundraising binge in order to stay above the PSR. Rumours among the club’s competitors indicate that they may need to collect as much as £100 million by the end of June.

Reportedly, the club downplayed rumours about its PSR position, restating that early sales would be approved in order to strengthen the team.

Whatever the case, with at least two of the academy graduates anticipated to depart the club in the summer, Ian Maatsen, Armando Broja, and Conor Gallagher would be worried about their futures in the team.

There are plenty of Premier League teams keeping an eye on Gallagher, so he’s not short of suitors. Chelsea are still waiting on a new contract for the midfield player, but Tottenham Hotspur have been particularly watchful.

While Broja’s loan transfer to Fulham might make or break his career at Stamford Bridge, Maatsen, a Borussia Dortmund loanee, has a £35 million release clause in his contract.

Other players who could be shown the exit door from the club are Marc Cucurella, Romelu Lukaku and Trevoh Chalobah.
