After Barcelona’s stunning Champions League win over Napoli this week, the name of Pau Cubarsi will have come to the wider attention of the footballing public.
The Catalan giants have known that they have someone special in Cubarsi who, at just 17 years of age managed to completely nullify the threat of Victor Osimhen and his Partnopei colleagues.

Along with the likes of Fermin Lopez and Lamine Yamal, Cubarsi might be expected to be a mainstay of the new generation of players at the Blaugranes, and there’s certainly no suggestion that they’d be willing to cash in on the young centre-back.
What marks him out from his contemporaries is his pace, heading ability, calmness in possession, appreciation of space, desire to win every ball and a complete lack of fearlessness against any opponent – as Osimhen found out to his cost.
However, as Football Espana note, Cubarsi has a miniscule release clause of €10m-€15m which has piqued the interest of Premier League trio Arsenal, Chelsea and Man United.
All three would undoubtedly benefit from having Cubarsi in their side, and whilst you can never say never, it’s thought that the talented teen would prefer to succeed with Barcelona – who will clearly raise his release clause as necessary.
That would also mean disappointment for Man City who Sport (h/t Football Espana) note have been the only team to actually contact the player and his representatives about a permanent move to the Premier League to date.
