Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski put the Gunners ahead after just 25 minutes but Berbatov halved the deficit six minutes later before Alex Kacanikilic restored parity with just five minutes of the first half remaining.
A Berbatov penalty put the West London club ahead midway through the second half but that lead lasted just two minutes as Giroud levelled things up once again.
A last minute penalty miss from Mikel Arteta ensured a rotten afternoon for Arsenal fans but a thrilling encounter for the neutral.
