Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has admitted that star midfielder Yaya Toure will not be signing a new contract with the Premier League champions this summer, but did insist that the player was happy at the club.

The Daily Mail believe that the midfielder, who is currently 14 months into a four-year contract, will not be joining Vincent Kompany, David Silva, Sergio Aguero and Samir Nasri in putting pen to paper on a new deal.

Toure made headlines earlier this summer when his agent, Dimitri Seluk, criticised the club for not treating his client with sufficient levels of respect on his birthday. City were also accused of not allowing the player to visit his ill brother in hospital before he died.

As a result, the Ivorian was speculatively linked with moves to Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool by the Daily Star. The rumours were based on Seluk’s comment: “”There’s a big possibility Yaya will leave this summer. Yaya is very upset.”

However, Pellegrini has since moved to dispel those stories, saying: “Really, I spoke with Yaya and he’s very happy, I don’t know what happened in the summer. I hope Yaya can repeat the season he had last season.”

But with the player refusing to commit his long term future to the club, the player could yet open the door for a potential move later in the year.
