The south-coast side have already seen Adam Lallana, Luke Shaw, Ricky Lambert, Calum Chambers and Dejan Lovren all leave and manager Ronald Koeman will hope that brings an end to the mass St Mary’s exodus.
Schneiderlin has given Southampton six years sterling service but may feel the time is right for a new challenge, not least as he has seen his team-mates leave en masse, and having broken into Didier Deschamps’ national team set-up he may feel he needs a high-profile move at this stage of his career.
Pochettino has a number of central midfield options but may well see Schneiderlin as an improvement on the likes of Sandro, Etienne Capoue and Moussa Dembele.
