The Cameroon international is currently spending the season on loan at Upton Park from Barcelona, where he has failed to establish himself as a regular in the side since his move from Arsenal back in 2012.

Song has previously been regarded as one of the top midfield players in the Premier League, and has looked in fine form for West Ham this season to attract interest from big clubs once again.

Liverpool look in need of strengthening in midfield as doubt remains over the long-term future of Steven Gerrard at Anfield, while summer signing Emre Can has not impressed a great deal so far this season.

City, meanwile, could also do with new additions in that part of the pitch due to the poor form of Yaya Toure this season, and Song is a similarly powerful and technically gifted performer in the middle of the park.

It remains to be seen how much Song will cost to sign permanently, but the Hammers have a battle on their hands to keep him.
