The Italian is on the Blues shortlist as an ideal replacement for club legend Didier Drogba and believe they could negotiate Inter’s asking price down to around £20m to get their man, reports the Daily Express.

With Dider Drogba expected by some to retire at the end of the season and with Manchester City’s reportedly imminent deal for Drogba’s countryman Wilfried Bony, Jose Mourinho has looked to the striker of his former side.

Chelsea may have to convince Icardi, however, who has claimed he is happy with life at Inter following his move from Sampdoria in the summer of 2013.

“I am happy in Milan, as I adapted well to the city and to Inter. Without doubt having so many Argentines in the squad helped, although there are fewer of them around this year.

“I chose Inter because they are a top club and am truly happy with my decision. They did everything to get me here,” he said.

“Right now I am thinking only of Inter and growing with this team to achieve my objectives.”
