Napoli boss refuses to confirm his plans for next season
Napoli manager Rafael Benitez has revealed that he will discuss his future before the end of the season but would not confirm whether he plans to stay at Napoli next season, according to talkSPORT.
“I’ll speak about my future before the end of the season,” Benitez said.
“For now I want to stay focused on the present, and the games we have coming up. I have a good relationship with the players and the club, there’s still time to discuss this issue.”
Benitez’s admission that his future is uncertain is bound to interest Newcastle United, who will be looking to appoint a new manager in the summer.
His knowledge and experience in continental football, is surely going to make him a candidate that will interest Newcastle owner Mike Ashley, given the club’s recent reputation for dipping into the European market to sign talented, young players.
Napoli currently sit third in the Serie A, but with the club 12 points behind Juventus, Benitez admits that winning the league is no longer a possibility.
“Juventus? They have a bigger and stronger squad than the rest of the League, that pays off in the long-run,” the Spaniard continued.
“As for second place, if we maintain our current push we have an excellent chance of achieving that. Much will depend on Roma, if there are further missteps from them, we’ll be there, ready to take advantage.”
