He’s scored 18 times in 39 games whilst playing for the South American giants, but was vilified by the media and fans after a poor World Cup last summer.

He has not been called up to a Brazil squad since Scolari’s departure in July last year, and says he no longer is thinking about a return. His announcement comes despite his fine club form for Fluminense, which has seen him bag 80 goals in 124 games for the Rio-based side and includes five in his last six.

“Honestly, returning to the national team is no longer something I think about it. I am concentrating solely on [club football] here at Fluminense,” he told Radio Globo in an interview.

“I’ve got five goals [this season], but I could have eight or nine already,” he added. “I’m always trying to evolve and improve, and now I just want to work on being as decisive as possible for Fluminense, I’m not interested in the national team.”
