Aston Villa have become the latest club to show an interest in young Chelsea forward Patrick Bamford, and may look to launch their own move for him over the summer as Tim Sherwood looks to beef up the club’s attack, according to the Daily Mail.
The 21-year-old has been on loan with Championship promotion chasers Middlesbrough this season, where he has managed to bag himself an impressive 19 goals so far.
That good form saw him pick up the Championship Player of the Year award at Football League Awards this weekend, but in a strange move he was left out of the PFA Team of the Year.
Bamford already has a series of Premier League admirers, with the likes of Everton, Crystal Palace and Southampton all buoyed by the news that Chelsea would be willing to send him out on loan for another year.
However, Villa, who may be finding themselves looking for a replacement for Christian Benteke, are looking to add more numbers to their threadbare forward line, and Bamford very much fits in with the young and hungry ethos that Sherwood is looking to instil.
