Man United transfer news: Club eager to land Swiss wonderkid

Posted by

FC Basel and Swiss starlet Breel Embolo has drawn plenty of interest this season from across Europe, and Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has noticed him too. With the club struggling to score goals even with Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial healthy, the club appears poised to make a major splash to land the Swiss forward.

According to the Metro, Manchester United will “go all out” to sign the 18-year-old forward in the January transfer window. Embolo has five goals in 12 Swiss Super League appearances, plus a goal in the Champions League qualifiers and two goals in the Europa League – all for FC Basel.

Embolo is also a forward for the Switzerland national football team and recorded his first goal for the country against San Marino in the Euro 2016 qualifiers.

Man United have broken the transfer record for teenagers three times in the last 11 years – for Wayne Rooney in 2004, for Luke Shaw in 2014 and for Anthony Martial this past summer. All three have emerged as stars for the Red Devils and been nominees for the prestigious Golden Boy award.
