The 33-year-old’s 170th Premier League shutout, in his 352nd game, saw him surpass ex-Liverpool and Manchester City goalkeeper David James’s tally of 169.

Most of that total came during Cech’s spell at Chelsea, and several of his former Stamford Bridge teammates took to social media to congratulate the Czech.

Many of his Arsenal colleagues, a couple of goalkeeping greats and the previous record-holder were also among those to toast Cech’s fantastic achievement…

“Petr, what a fantastic performer you are. You completely deserve it. You’re a top guy, a great goalkeeper.”

– Former Manchester United and Netherlands goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar

“Congratulations on breaking the record. You are one of the best goalkeepers in the history of the Premier League.”

I can speak highly enough of Pete, he’s a fantastic man who is a very good friend and a fantastic professional. Not only that, I think he’s been in the top few goalkeepers for a long time, maybe even the last 15 years.”
