Liverpool fans are currently having to endure a difficult spell of their season that has seen injuries ravage their squad at a crucial point of the campaign.
At this point, they’ll take all the good news they can get, so when it emerged that goalkeeper Simon Mignolet had penned a new five-year contract extension, it would seem that a celebration is in order.
Or perhaps not…
Some fans were already on edge following the news that Steven Caulker had signed on loan for the remainder of the season from QPR, and they have now seemingly been pushed over the edge with the news that Mignolet has been given the chance to extend his stay at Anfield.
Despite his good clean sheet record and excellent performances this term, it seems that the Belgian is not the most popular figure on Merseyside at the moment.
5 more years. Everything has been agreed. Simon Mignolet is ready to sign a new deal at Liverpool until 2021. #lfc pic.twitter.com/efFo90dvQR

I'm not sure I can deal with five more minutes of Mignolet, let alone five years. #LFC

Just woke up to some terrible news……. mignolet signed a new contract ????????????????????????

Unless there's a clause in Mignolet's contract that he's now fifth-choice keeper, I'm beyond fuming. #LFC

Mignolet is not good enough to be number 1. Too good to be second choice keeper. Why give him a 5 year deal?

Mignolet's set to sign a new contract & his salary will be increased, apparently, to £90k a week. Madness. You don't reward mediocrity. #LFC

So why are we giving Mignolet a new deal? What? I thought new deals are a reward for doing well not fucking losing matches cos of mistakes

Doesn't it make sense NOT to renew Mignolet's contract when he's not very good or am I looking at this the wrong way?

Hart, Cech, Courtouis, Lloris, De Gea, Schmeichel, Butland. Mignolet behind them all.
