Video: Sheyi Ojo free-kick practice shows Liverpool may have new set-piece specialist

Steven Gerrard’s departure last summer left many voids for Liverpool to fill, and one which probably went under the radar was his expertise from set pieces.

The Reds failed miserably to fill that void last season. The likes of Philippe Coutinho, James Milner and Jordan Henderson had a go, but Liverpool did not score a single direct free-kick.

But have they now unearthed a new set-piece specialist? Sheyi Ojo’s free-kick practice with England U19s suggests that he could be Gerrard’s replacement from dead-ball situations.

There’s a little bit of Gareth Bale about the way Ojo strikes the ball. He scores two out of his five attempts, including an inch-perfect effort with his fourth. He also smashes the crossbar!

The rapid 19-year-old winger featured in six of Liverpool’s final 10 Premier League games of last term. Could his free-kicks persuade Jurgen Klopp to use him even more regularly next season?
