(Video) Super-strike from Robert Snodgrass downs champions Leicester City after penalty controversy

Hull City claimed a 2-1 win over Leicester City on Saturday, with the defending Premier League champions falling to defeat in the first game of the new season.

Adama Diomante had given the hosts the lead in the first half with a superb over-head kick, with the visitors lacking a clinical edge in front of goal after having several good chances to break the deadlock.

However, it took less than a minute into the second half for them to find a way back into the game, with Demarai Gray fouled and awarded a penalty despite replays showing that the foul was committed outside of the box.

That mattered little to Riyad Mahrez who confidently stepped up and hammered his penalty home to draw Claudio Ranieri’s side level.

While it appeared to give them the impetus to push on and go for the win, it wasn’t long before they were trailing again and they certainly had themselves to blame.

After some poor defending ensured that they put themselves under pressure, a poor throw out from Kasper Schmeichel handed possession back to the hosts.

From there, they were able to deliver a dangerous cross into the box which wasn’t dealt with, as Robert Snodgrass kept his head and produced a great finish.

Leicester pushed in search of an equaliser in the closing stages, but they were unable to find the back of the net as their title defence got off to a losing start.
