Chelsea transfer news: Blues striker seals exit, midfielder having medical up North

This morning’s Chelsea transfer news was all about outgoings.

Chelsea’s official website confirmed that 22-year-old striker Patrick Bamford had joined Burnley on loan.

A short while later, Sky Sports reported that Blues midfielder Christian Atsu was up North at Newcastle United discussing personal terms ahead of a similar season-long deal.

This move to Burnley is Bamford’s seventh loan from Chelsea.

The former Nottingham Forest youngster has previously had two spells at MK Dons, as well as stints with Derby County, Middlesbrough, Crystal Palace and Norwich City.

Bamford will be hoping his time at Burnley proves more fruitful that he last two Premier League loans.

Disappointingly, Bamford failed to score in 13 top-flight outings for Palace and Norwich last season.

He has yet to play for Chelsea’s first team in any competition.

Atsu hasn’t ever featured for the Blues at senior level either.

He too is a serial loanee, having been shipped out to Vitesse, Everton, Bournemouth and Malaga since signing for Chelsea back in September 2013.
