Liverpool eye another crucial defensive signing, key problem area could be solved

Liverpool will hope that they’ve gone a long way to solving their problems in defence with the big-money signing of Virgil van Dijk, but their spending might not be over.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have certainly tightened things up at the back in recent weeks, but they’ve still conceded 25 goals in 22 Premier League games this season, the second-worst defensive record of the top seven sides.

Having splashed out a whopping £75m on Van Dijk last week, as per BBC Sport, Klopp will hope that the Dutchman can bring physicality, leadership and defensive solidity to his side.

However, another problem area that has resurfaced at varying times over the last few seasons is in between the posts, with neither Simon Mignolet nor Loris Karius entirely convincing given their habit of making a costly mistake.

In his defence, Mignolet goes long stretches without being guilty of said mistakes, but if Liverpool are to really compete for major honours moving forward, an argument could be made for them to bring in a world-class stopper to help them move to that next level.

According to The Sun, the Reds are keen on Roma goalkeeper Alisson, who is enjoying a very impressive debut campaign in Italy after his move from Internacional last summer.

The Brazilian ace has conceded just 12 goals in 18 Serie A games, keeping nine clean sheets along the way, and his maturity, shot-stopping and overall organisation of the backline has been impressive and an important part of Roma’s solid first-half of the campaign.

Whether it’s enough to warrant a move to Liverpool is up for debate, but along with Paris Saint-Germain, the report claims that the Merseyside giants are interested and so he’s clearly doing something right. However, it remains to be seen whether or not it’s enough to see him prised away from the Italian capital.

Judging on the video below though, he may be raising some anxiety levels at Anfield himself with tricks like these…
