Advanced talks: Arsenal closing in on sixth summer signing under Unai Emery

Arsenal are reportedly closing in on the transfer of Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer in what would be their sixth signing of the summer under new manager Unai Emery.

The Switzerland international has impressed in the Bundesliga and Marca, with translation from the Daily Express, claim talks for the Gunners to sign him are at an advanced stage and that he’s nearing a move to the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal have already signed a new ‘keeper this summer, bringing in Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen, though there may be need for another depending on the futures of other players.

The Sun link Petr Cech with Roma and Chelsea, while David Ospina has been largely unconvincing as a backup in his time in north London so far.

Yann Sommer is Arsenal’s latest transfer target

Sommer’s arrival could give Emery the ideal opportunity to pick between him and Leno as first choice, giving him two upgrades between the sticks after years of disappointing display from Cech and Ospina.

Arsenal have been busy reshaping their squad under Emery, bringing in Stephan Lichtsteiner, Bernd Leno, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi.
