Sven Mislintat releases parting statement as Arsenal confirm transfer chief’s exit

Arsenal have confirmed the departure of Sven Mislintat as head of recruitment, with the former Borussia Dortmund chief set to leave on February 8.

This announcement is breaking now on Arsenal’s official site, and doesn’t sound like good news for the Gunners as he only joined the club in December 2017.

Mislintat is widely thought to have played a key role in some fine signings for Arsenal, with top young talent like Lucas Torreira, Matteo Guendouzi and Konstantinos Mavropanos identified and brought in in his time at the Emirates Stadium.

Mislintat is also likely to have used his Dortmund connections to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Sokratis Papastathopoulos from his old club, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan was also signed from Manchester United last January but will have known Mislintat from his time at Dortmund too.

Arsenal’s recruitment does seem to have improved recently and fans will surely be hoping another big name can be brought in as a sporting director or something similar.

This is hardly ideal news in a time of massive upheaval at the north London club, with long-serving manager Arsene Wenger leaving at the end of last season and CEO Ivan Gazidis following not long after.

‘It’s been an amazing experience to work at a great club like Arsenal in what has been a big time of change,’ Mislintat is quoted by Arsenal.com.

‘I am excited about what the future holds for the club and am looking forward to new challenges for myself.’
