James Milner takes another dig at Super League plans with tweet after Liverpool’s draw with Leeds

Liverpool midfielder James Milner took another dig at the European Super League plans after the Reds’ 1-1 draw with Leeds United yesterday.

The Premier League champions were held to a draw at Elland Road in a dent to their hopes of finishing in the top four, though the game was overshadowed by yesterday’s huge news surrounding the formation of a new breakaway Super League.

Liverpool are one of the 12 founding members to sign up for the new competition, and it’s fair to say the plans have been met with almost universal criticism from fans and pundits alike.

Milner made his feelings clear about it in his post-match interview, which you can watch here, and he took another subtle aim at the ideas in this tweet below…

Milner makes it clear that trying to finish in the top four is Liverpool’s job – most likely a reference to the bizarre idea that teams would be guaranteed a place in the Super League regardless of how they perform in other competitions.

It’s nice to see players coming out against these plans, but it remains to be seen if those making the big money will listen.
