“We like him” – Jurgen Klopp speaks out on Liverpool’s transfer interest in Kylian Mbappe

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has spoke out on his club’s transfer interest in Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe.

The France international is an elite talent and has been for some time now, but it is perhaps not too surprising to see that the deal is out of reach for Liverpool.

Mbappe looks set to join Real Madrid instead, with Marca also claiming that the 23-year-old contacted Liverpool about his decision.

When asked about whether or not Liverpool had been in contact with Mbappe, Klopp didn’t seem keen to give too much away, though the German tactician did admit he was an admirer of the player.

Kylian Mbappe won’t be joining Liverpool

Still, Klopp also made it clear that this is not the kind of transfer Liverpool can be in for.

“Nothing to say about [contact with the player], but between Kylian and Liverpool, it is all set, it is all fine. We like him – if you don’t like him then you have to question yourself!” Klopp is quoted by Goal.

“But no, we can not be part of these battles. There must be other clubs involved, but that is fine. He is still a great player.”

Mbappe Liverpool transfer would have been perfect response to Haaland’s City move

Liverpool could do with strengthening up front at the moment, with both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane approaching the final year of their current contracts.

With Manchester City probably about to win the title, and with Erling Haaland about to come in this summer, there’s no doubt a signing like Mbappe would’ve been a big response from the Reds.

While the way Liverpool do their business is admirable, it perhaps still seems that they behave in a similar way to a few years ago, when they were not the established force that they are now.

Surely now there’s a case for LFC breaking the bank a bit more and showing that they belong among Europe’s elite by challenging for a signing like Mbappe?
