Virgil van Dijk revealed Man Utd transfer mistake to teammate in private chat

Virgil van Dijk has revealed how he could have signed for Manchester United before they opted to bring in Victor Lindelof.

Van Dijk was performing exceptionally for Southampton after signing from Celtic and was understandably attracting interest from bigger clubs.

He was never going to stay at Southampton forever, and his former teammate Charlie Austin has revealed a private conversation the two players had.

“I remember the back end of his Southampton career we were on the bench together at Chelsea away. I sat there I said, ‘come on Virgil, what’s going on, surely Man Utd must’ve been in for you? Massive club in England, etc.

“He said, ‘you know what Chaz, in the summer it was like between more or Lindelof and they signed Lindelof’. I was like, ‘you are joking!’ Nobody knows that, he told me that on the bench. I couldn’t believe it, I was just as gobsmacked as you,” said Austin, speaking on talkSPORT.

Manchester United fans will be devastated hearing their club opted to sign Lindelof over Van Dijk.,

  1. Yes absolutely devastating news for United fans around the world this, a defender who doesn’t tackle and only makes runs to put a striker off his stride, he’s always 5 yards away, as we’ve seen from decent strikers, you only need half a yard get a shot away, really devastating that we missed the opportunity to sign an absolute lemon of a defender who was stat hunting rather than concentrating on stopping goals going in his net luckily Liverpool has a decent midfield and plenty of winning mentality which is going out of the window now they aren’t winning and soon as klopp goes its back to old “its aaa yerr mayt”
