Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Benfica defender Antonio Silva.

The 19-year-old Portuguese defender is regarded as a prodigious young talent with a big future ahead of him.

A report from 90 Min claims that Spurs recently sent scouts to watch the player in action last Friday and it remains to be seen whether they are prepared to follow up on their interest with a concrete proposal at the end of the season.

Silva could prove to be a quality long-term signing for Tottenham who are in need of defensive reinforcements.

Antonio Conte will have to find upgrades on players like Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier at the end of the season and Silva could be the ideal long-term partner for Cristian Romero at the heart of Tottenham’s defence.

Spurs have looked vulnerable at the back at times and summer signing Clement Lenglet has not been able to live up to the expectations. The player is set to return to his parent club upon the expiry of his loan deal and signing a quality centre-back should be a top priority for Tottenham during the summer transfer window.

Silva has already established himself as a key player for Benfica and the Portuguese outfit have been quite impressive at the back this season. They have conceded just 13 goals in the league all season.

The 19-year-old defender has all the attributes to develop into a world-class defender and working under a coach like Antonio Conte could help him improve further and fulfil his tremendous potential. The defender has a €100 million release clause in his contract.
