22-year-old’s representatives receive proposal from long-term admirers Liverpool

Liverpool continue to be linked with a move for the Sporting CP midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

The 22-year-old is expected to leave the club at the end of the season and Record claims that his emissaries are set to arrive in Lisbon with an offer from Liverpool this week.

Liverpool have reportedly scouted the player for a long time and it remains to be seen whether they can agree on a deal with the Portuguese club.

Liverpool will have to bring in a quality defensive midfielder at the end of the season and Ugarte would be a solid, long-term investment. Brazilian international midfielder Fabinho has been quite mediocre this season and he has looked like a shadow of his former self.

Jurgen Klopp needs to bring in someone who will add defensive cover to the midfield and help break up the opposition attacks.

Ugarte has been highly impressive for Sporting CP this season, and his performances against clubs like Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in the European competitions this season have been splendid.

The 22-year-old certainly has the quality to play in the Premier League and he could be a key player for Liverpool next season.

It remains to be seen whether the Reds could bring it the necessary midfield reinforcements during the summer transfer window. They are expected to lose players like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner on a free transfer. Klopp must look to replace all three players adequately.

Liverpool have been linked with several other midfield names and it remains to be seen who they end up signing eventually.
