Fabrizio Romano provides update on Manuel Ugarte amid interest from Liverpool

Liverpool are heading into the summer transfer market with midfielders on their mind and one name that has been linked to the Reds in recent weeks is Sporting CP’s Manuel Ugarte.

Last week reports in Portugal stated that Liverpool were ready to submit their first bid for the 22-year-old, with Record stating that the Reds have had an interest in the Uruguayan for some time.

Fabrizio Romano has now provided an update on Ugarte’s situation as the midfielder has now teamed up with superagent Jorge Mendes.

The transfer journalist also states that three Premier League clubs are considering a move ahead of the summer and the likelihood of his departure from Sporting is high.

Ugarte has a release clause of €60m in his Sporting contract and that is very achievable for most Premier League clubs.

Liverpool, however, don’t look like they are one of the three clubs mentioned despite recent reports as GOAL‘s Neil Jones (a reliable Liverpool journalist) reported on Friday night that the midfielder is “not a target,” with sources at the Merseyside club insisting he is not “on the club’s agenda.”

The Reds have also been linked to the likes of Alexis Mac Allister, Mason Mount and Ryan Gravenberch ahead of the summer, as it remains to be seen what midfielders wear a red shirt next season.
