Exclusive: Fabrizio Romano says ‘worried’ Chelsea in talks with specialists over 24-year-old

Reece James suffered another hamstring injury recently.

The 24-year-old full-back pulled up during last weekend’s 2-0 defeat against Everton.

Struggling with the reoccurring injury, James’ latest setback will see him out of action for at least two months, and with Chelsea enduring another tough campaign, their captain’s absence is far from ideal.

And although the defender will not return until the end of the season, there is still a decision to be made over whether or not to operate on his leg.

Speaking about the possibility of Chelsea’s number 24 having surgery, leading transfer journalist and CaughtOffside columnist Fabrizio Romano revealed how the club and player will make their decision early next week.

“A final decision on whether or not the full-back will undergo surgery will be made within the next few days — that’s the plan internally,” he wrote in his exclusive SubStack column.

“Make no mistake though, for sure Chelsea are worried. They want James to be in the best possible condition to perform at the highest levels — the player wants the same, but this is not the case at the moment.”

Going on to explain how the London club hope to eradicate the problem once and for all, Romano confirmed the club are talking to leading medical specialists.

“Chelsea are in talks with medical specialists about how to help and prevent this issue from becoming an even bigger problem,” he added.

“Everybody hopes James can come back even stronger.”

The Blues were dealt a second injury blow while in action against Everton. Marc Cucurella injured his ankle and is also expected to miss up to three months’ worth of action.

  1. he looks muscle bound from too much weight training to me.
    if surgery can solve the immediate problem then do it ;
    but he needs a new maintenance regime;
    as if he goes back to the gym then the problem will recur.
