Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will have raised one or two eyebrows recently when he spoke about Jack Grealish needing to improve his form to get more playing time, but it seems there’s not much more to it than that.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano has he spoke exclusively to CaughtOffside for his Daily Briefing column to discuss Grealish’s situation ahead of the summer.

Man City invested huge money into signing Grealish from Aston Villa back in the summer of 2021, and though he has enjoyed great success in terms of silverware at the Etihad Stadium, one imagines few fans would really feel like they’ve seen the best of him.

Grealish was a joy to watch when the team was built around him at Villa, but his role has been a lot more subdued at City, so it might be wise for the England international to re-think his situation now after having this chance to be part of a winning team at the Etihad Stadium.

Still, Romano has stressed that it doesn’t currently look like City are planning to make Grealish one of the players on their outgoings list for the summer, so there might still be another chapter to this story.

Grealish transfer situation clarified by Romano

“Jack Grealish picked up an injury last night and we wish him all the best after some bad luck in that department. But before that, Pep Guardiola also raised some eyebrows when he spoke about Grealish’s situation of not starting a lot of games,” Romano said.

“As usual, Pep has been honest, he was just speaking the truth about Grealish’s form needing to improve. However, my understanding for now is that Man City are not planning anything about him among their outgoings for the summer – it’s very quiet. We will see in the summer.”
